North Cape Fly-around
Events
Attention all pilots!

The Bay of Plenty Chapter is planning a North Cape fly-around over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of this month (May).

The plan will be to leave from wherever your aircraft is based early Saturday morning the 24th May and fly to Dargaville for lunch. For those that wish to we will stop at Graeme Weck’s strip at Patumahoe near Pukekohe for coffee on the way.

After lunch at Dargaville we will continue on up the left hand side of the North Island to Cape Reinga, make a right hand turn and fly down the other side to Kerikeri where we will spend the night.

Sunday morning we will depart Kerikeri for Kaipara Flats or other for further refreshments then on back to your home base.

The total length of the journey from Tauranga is approx 650 NM.

Detailed instruction and information will be provided to all participants a week before the trip.

At this stage we need to know who intends to join us for this weekend.

ATC Cadets Fly-In, Matamata - NOTE CHANGE OF DATE TO 11 MAY 2008
Fly-Ins To show our appreciation to the Air Training Corp Cadets for their help at SportAvex we plan to take them for short scenic flights around the Matamata area on Sunday 11th May 2008 from 10am onwards. There will be a pilot briefing in the Aero Club rooms at 9.45am.
As we have about 50 cadets to take flying it would be helpful to have an idea of how many aircraft will be attending, so if you intend to participate we would appreciate you contacting Grant Horn on 027 471 8699 or email to granthorn@xtra.co.nz
Air BP have generously donated $500 to help with the fuel costs and landing fees will be paid for all those taking cadets flying.
In case bad weather results in cancellation this will be posted on the website prior to 8.00am on the day and a message will be sent via members@saa.org.nz.

Who we are - What we are doing
Sport flying is fun flying!! Flying for leisure and pleasure. The Sport Aircraft Association is a non-profit organisation open to anyone interested in aviation. It is devoted to promoting and assisting the private aircraft builder and flier, furthering the cause of sport flying and generally stimulating the interest of the aviation enthusiast.
A handful of enthusiasts founded the Association in 1964 and since then it has grown rapidly and has members around the world.
The Association encourages the development and utilization of both microlight and experimental amateur-built aircraft for recreational, educational and research purposes.
Ownership of commercially manufactured aircraft is costly, and “flying for fun” in such aircraft is generally beyond the means of the average family. Amateur construction of an aircraft reduces the financial problem, as well as providing satisfaction of achievement, not only with quality of workmanship, but also in providing the owner with a “special” aircraft, having an appearance and features so very different from normal stock models.
