About SAA
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the SAA NZ website and we do hope that you will enjoy this experience of visiting with us and learning something of the Aircraft Home Builders activities in New Zealand.
The SAA NZ is a very active organisation with a diverse membership of well over 500 keen builders and fliers. The prime focus of our Association is to support the homebuilder through every aspect of choosing, building, testing and flying the aircraft he or she wishes to build. We work closely with the NZ Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that legislation is supportive in providing a framework that gives the greatest freedom in creativity but without compromise to safety. Within the membership there is a great wealth of knowledge that is freely shared to assist people in their projects and help is never further than a phone call away.
Although our prime focus is on the support of the builder we are also dedicated to ensuring that Sport Flying has its rightful place in New Zealand.
Our Mission Statement summarises the aims of the Association:
“The Sport Aircraft Association of New Zealand Inc (SAA) is a non-profit organisation devoted to promoting and assisting the private aircraft builder and flier, furthering the cause of sport flying in all its forms, and generally stimulating the interest of the aviation enthusiast.
The SAA also wishes to encourage the development and utilisation of amateur built aircraft for recreational, educational and research purposes.
The Council will also continue to strive to develop new initiatives which will benefit the membership”.

Throughout New Zealand SAA members have gathered together to form chapters. Members of a chapter are not required to be a SAANZ member, although it is encouraged. Similarly SAA members are not required to join a chapter. Most chapters have a membership subscription that is independent of the SAA membership subscription.
